Swapetínes Llegaron / Sock Exchange Arrival
Llegaron, llegaron, a través del Atlantico llegaron!
Auxi es mi swapetinadora y que contento me quedé con las cosas que llegaron en su paquete, té roibos (mi favorita y con aroma de chocolate y naranja…perfecto! Una jigra linda de pita tejida, con figurines marítimos hechas de harina como para imitar arcilla, secas (¿horneadas quizas?) y pintadas con barniz…muy lindo..semillas de Don Diego de noche, y chocolate (no figura en la foto pues mi esposa ya la disfrutó)…y los calcetines…¡no, no, no, pues! ¡Pero de remate! (como decimos los colombianos). Un azul pero absolutamente genial! y los colores mezclados me gustan mucho! Ahora que estamos con el clima muy caliente…no los llevo puesto, pero a mi nuevo trabajo en septiembre…los voy a estrenar el primer día! Estoy muy contento. Gracias Auxi…mil veces!

Auxi is my sock exchanger and I’m thrilled with the things that arrived in her package for me: rooibos tea with an orange chocolate flavouring, a miniature ‘jigra’ made from woven jute and finely decorated with varnished dough art in sea-life shapes, very nice…Morning Glory seeds, some chocolate (which doesn’t appear here as my wife already enjoyed partaking of all of it) and the Socks! Oh my goodness! They are soo nice. The blue is beautiful and the other colours that are blended in are great! I’m not wearing them yet as it’s humid and hot now, but in September when I start my new job, I’ll break them in on my first day, for luck! I’m very happy. Thanks a thousand times, Auxi! On the close-up you can see the mock cables made with strategically placed increases and decreases.

Sock Heel Grid

Spring Knitting / Tejiendo en Primavera
Spring has finally arrived in Niagara as elsewhere in the growing zone we share across the continent. Here’s the tulip bed in front of our home, which faces south. The warm weather means less knitting for me for the first little while, not because of the heat. I knit in any temperature. However, I have a lot of yard work to do. The ice storms left us lots of wood to chop into logs. The pool needs to be opened. The low-lying areas that consistently flood need to be filled so that we don’t harvest mosquitoes. Lot’s of fun. So what is on my needles that will patiently wait till later? About 4 pairs of socks, the same pair of mittens, the same shawl, and not yet on my needles, but something I’m determined to start and finish soon, is a cotton sweater for my wife. I haven’t designed it yet, but I will, I will!
My mother’s health is stable now and we have been able to get her a place in a long-term care facility where all her health needs will be amply met. She is so glad to be there because it is another wing of the complex where she used to live independently in a senior’s apartment. All her friends can come and visit her and she can still participate in many of the social activities. She is in a wheel chair now, and can walk with supervision, but her health despite her chronic condition is quite good. We’ve spent the last month packing up her apartment and moving everything to our home, so our basement is now absolutely crowded with furniture and boxes. We have set a 4 month goal of sorting and thinning through all the things and distributing sentimental items to my brothers and their families. We are the only ones that live near my mom. The others are several 100 km or several provinces away. 
I’d rather be knitting! One good thing! I’ll be giving a toe-up sock tutorial at a LYS, The Knitting Habit, in Niagara Falls. If you are a local knitter, please join us.
Por fin llega la primavera a la región de Niagara y los demas lugares que comparten la zona agrícola a través del continente. Aquí están los tulipanes que crecen en frente de nuestra casa que da al sur. El clima más cálida significa menos tejer para mí, pero no por cuestión del calor sino que tengo mucho trabajo en el jardín. Los tormentas de hielo hizo caer muchas ramas de los arboles y tengo que cortarlas para leña. La piscina está sin prepararse y me toca destaparla, limpiarla y rellenarla. Hay partes del jardín que son muy bajas y tengo que rellenarlos con tierra y sembrar el césped para evadir el ‘cultivo’ de sancudos (mosquitos). ¡Qué tan divertido! ¿Y qué esta en mis agujas esperando pacientemente para que acabe el jardín? Pues, 4 pares de calcetines, los mismos mitones, el mismo chal de antes, y también estoy determinado tejerle un sueter de algono a mi esposa. No he diseñado el patrón aún, pero lo haré!
La salud de mi madre esta mas estable actualmente, y hemos podido encontrar una residencia donde todas sus necesidades recibiran el mejor cuidado posible. Ella está tan contenta de estar allí pues está en un anexo del edificio donde solía vivir y está con todas sus amigas y servicios familiares. Ellas vienen para hacerle la visita y puede participar en un montón de actividades sociales y no tiene que estar recostada mirando tele o leyendo todo el día. Está en silla de ruedas ahora y puede caminar bajo supervisión, pero fuera de su condición crónica está bien de salud. Hemos pasado el mes anterior empacando los contenidos de su apartamento y trasladando todo a nuestro hogar. El sotando de la casa está repleta de muebles y cajas. Tenemos el objetivo de tener todas las cosas sentimentales encasilladas y distribuidas a mis hermanos y sus familias dentro de 4 meses. Soy el único que vive cerca pues lo demas viven mas de 200 km o varios provincias de lejos.
¡Prefiero estar tejiendo! Una cosa mas positiva…estaré dando clases con mi tutorial de calcetines, pero en inglés en una tienda de lanas local.
