Going Camping

From Saturday till the following Friday, we’ll be camping at Arrowhead Provincial Park. I hope to get some great photos, but they won’t have the fall colours like these. I’m also taking along the textbook for a course I’m redesigning for the fall in the Teaching English as a Second Language program at Niagara College; the book’s title is A Communicative Grammar of English. Naturally I need to take some knitting along. Going through my stash I’ve come across some 2-ply naturally-coloured alpaca that a friend brought me from Peru about 15 years ago. I think it’ll make nice socks for my two sons. They won’t mind the campfire smell that may infuse the yarn.

Del sabado hasta el viernes entrante estaremos de campamento en el parque provincial ‘Arrowhead’. Espero tomar fotos buenos pero no tendran los colores de otoño como estas. También llevaré el libro para el curso que estoy re-preparando para septiembre, el título es ‘A Communicacive Grammar of English’ y el curso la enseño en el certificado de pedagogía de idiomas en Niagara College. Naturalmente necesito traer proyectos para tejer conmigo. Mientras exploraba mi colección de lana, encontré alpaca de dos hebras de color natural que me trajo una amiga del Peró hace 15 años. Creo que dara calcentines comodos para mis dos hijos. No se fastidiaran con el olor de humo que quizas infundira el hilo.

My son’s first project

My son has just learned how to chain with a crochet hook. He’s made many people lots of cool wristbands and necklaces. This is mine. He’s a quick learner and more crochet and knitting lessons will follow.

Two way scarf

I’m designing a two way scarf and knitting as I go. I’m trying to use up odds and ends from my stash so I thought I’d put together this scarf. I’ll first show you my odds and ends:		Estoy diseñando una bufanda tejida en direcciones opuestas. Intento usar hilos cachivaches de mi coleccion. Estas son los retales de hilos que tengo, una combinacion de ceda, lana, algodon, e hilos acrilicos.
Using a size 6mm circular needle, I cast on 211 stitches (with scrap yarn) and then using the pattern from the scalloped feather lace that trims the Pink Mimosa sweater designed by Theresa Schabes in Interweave Knits, I knit about 5 inches (not in the round) in one direction. Then I’ve picked up the stitches near the scrap yarn cast on and I’m unravelling the scrapyarn cast on. I will knit the same lace pattern for 5 inches in the opposite direction.		Usando una aguja de 6mm, monté 211 puntos (con hilo de resta) y usando las instrucciones para el calado ondulante que adorna el sueter de Theresa Schabes en Interweave Knits. Tejí como 12 cm en una direccion y luego deshice el hilo de resta con el cual habia montado los puntos originales y recogiendolos a la vez y tejí 12 cm en la direccion opuesta.
