¿Puedes tú tener esa confianza en cuestión del tejer? ¿Cuando tejes, prefieres hacerlo sola en casa, en un sillón o sofá comodá, o en tu cama, o te gusta tejer afuera en el parque, o un jardín, o tomándote un cafecito en una cafetería en la plaza? Si te gusta hacerlo en público, ¿es por retar a los estigmas y preconcepciones que la gente tenga frente al tejer, o es simplemente porque te gustan las conversaciones que engendras con la gente cuando se arrima para ver lo que haces? El dicho de Mozart me inspira a tener mucha confianza en mí mismo y también me anima a tejer lo que sea, cuando sea o donde sea.Sé que muchas de Uds. cuando tejen, en un hombro tienen el angelito de la inspiración, y en el otro tienen un diablito de la autocrítica. Cuando la voz del diablito te taladra el oído, muchas veces son criticas que has escuchado en el pasado, las de una tía malhumorada, o una abuelita réquete-exigente — “Así no se hace mija…mira! ¿¡Cómo asi que hayas torcido estos puntos!?” — o algo parecido. También puede que sientas un poco de duda al confrontar un montón de halagos de la gente…¿qué es lo que quieren de mí? Quizás me están sobre-felicitando porque quieren que les teja algo.Hay que sacudir inmediatamente las voces negativas de tus hombros y en cambio, buscar y encontrar el equilibrio moral o espiritual en sí mismo y creer que lo que tejes es bello, es una creación de tus manos, es una forma de arte. Si te gusta tejer en la comodidad de tu hogar porque te es un santuario de calma y creatividad…es una cosa linda, pero si te escondes porque temes a las pullas que te lanza la gente … “¿Cómo así que tejes, estás embarazada? o Mira! a la abuelita solamente le falta su mecedora!”, ten confianza en tu creatividad, tu habilidad y tu pasión por el tejer, y sal para las plazas, los parques, las tiendas, los restaurantes, y sigue tejiendo.

When you knit, do you prefer to do so indoors, in a comfy couch or armchair, or perhaps in bed, or do you like to be outdoors, in a park, garden or at an patio café having a coffee? If you like knitting in public is it because you like to challenge the stereotypes and preconceptions that people have of knitters, or is it simply because you enjoy the conversations that start up with onlookers? Mozart’s words inspire me to have a lot of confidence in myself, and they encourage me to knit wherever, whenever.I know that many of you knit with two little guests on your shoulders, an angel and a demon. When then demon shrieks in your ear, many times is the critical voices of the past, some crotchety aunt or demanding grandmother — “That’s not how it’s done now! How could you have twisted those stitches!” — or the like. You may also feel some suspicions when confronted with a whole lot of flattery from people about your knitting. What is it they want from me? Maybe they want me to knit them something by being overly congratulatory.It’s necessary to dust off one’s shoulders and instead look for and focus on one’s internal moral or spiritual balance. It’s time to believe that what you knit is wonderful, a creation by your hands, an art form. If knitting at home is great because it’s your sanctuary of calmness and creativity, that is beautiful, but if you’re hiding from the biased comments of others, like “What? You’re knitting? You must be pregnant! or Look! Nanny only needs a rocking chair and she’s set,” take stock in your creativity, your ability and your passion and run for the plazas, parks, stores, and restaurants and keep knitting in their faces.
